I had thought about starting a medical transcription career and I had to hold back at first. That’s because I had a pending job offer abroad in relation to my previous work. For sure, I need to start a new career again with being a medical transcriptionist – that is why I had to think a lot about it

It came to the point of my life that it seemed I needed a change in career path that I think I would love the most. Aside from the very low salary I received from my previous job, I thought of getting paid for what I love to do most. I had thought of becoming a medical transcriptionist because of I would love to learn more medical terminologies – as my childhood dream was to become a doctor.

I had learned about this job about medical transcriptionist through the Internet  and various job posting on local newspaper. There were several advertisements as well of medical transcription school and it seemed the job was a high paying one. I believed that I was qualified for the job.

What is my idea about the work of a medical transcriptionist?

My idea of work for a medical transcriptionist will be, dealing with medical related terminologies and jargon that is not normally used by an average person. Transcribing medical reports for patients is a very serious job, so as the margin for error is very small if not zero. Dealing with medcial reports is very tricky, not to mention the doctor’s accent on audio recording and sometime reading the doctor’s handwriting. At first I thought of the job as similar to a pharmacist that it seems they have this special gift of deciphering the doctor’s penmanship, how illegible it may seem to us.

As for being a medical transcriptionist, you must have the responsibility of accurately encoding data, for reference and hospital use. It will greatly aid the doctors and other hospital personnel from sorting the patient’s old and new medical records for reference. That’s why it is important to transcribe all the necessary information accurately to avoid mistakes that might cost a life or a limb. Since we are in the digital age, why not make us of the facilities that are already accessible to us.

Medical transcription is a very serious job, and it requires knowledge and patience to work in this field. But the rewards are good, you not only gain information and knowledge in this field, but you help the healthcare industry as well.
