Archie: Welcome to The Transcriptionists Profiles, a series of interviews with people who are working as transcriptionists. My name is Archie, the author/administrator of Transcription Blog. Today, I’ll be talking to Mila. Hello Mila, welcome to the podcast. It’s nice to have you.

Mila: Hello Archie, it’s a pleasure to be here.

Archie: First, please tell me what is your profession or job now (current designation, e.g. senior MT) and where are you located now? (if possible, you can state your present company)

Mila: Presently, I am working as a home-based medical transcriptionist for a US based company.

Archie: How did you end up being in your profession or job (as a transcriptionist) now? How long have you been working in that job (transcriptionist)?

Mila: I’ve been working as a transcriptionist for 7 years.  I ended up being a transcriptionist because I felt comfortable with this type of job.  With my medical background and my being keen on searching things on the Internet made things a little bit easier for me.

Archie: If given a chance, do you like to work home based or office based? Why (briefly)?

Mila: Both have their own pros and cons, it clearly depends on the person which suits them best.  Personally, I prefer doing the home based work because it gives me more freedom to do other things plus you have the liberty to manage your own time and work at your own pace.

Archie: Given the type of transcription to work with, which one do you prefer: Medical, General (Business, podcasts, interviews), or Legal Transcription.

Guest: As a Physical Therapy graduate, I prefer doing Medical transcription.

Archie: Give one trait or quality to become effective or productive transcriptionist?

Mila: I guess one trait a transcriptionist should possess is the eye for details.  It’s a must for a transcriptionist to have this because this will minimize the work for the editors or QA, and can effectively train them to become a more efficient transcriptionist.

Archie: Lastly, what advice can you give to aspiring transcriptionist (or your profession)?

Mila: For those who are aspiring to be a transcriptionist, my only advice is that one should never get tired of learning new things.
